Characteristics:
This is one of the larges North Sea anemones. The base may reach a diameter of 25 cm. The body is smooth with a pink or red coloration. It has almost 200 tentacles. It often serves as a shelter for other animals, like the deepsea king crab or the anemone shrimp.

It is common in the North Atlantic from the British Isles and well beyond the Arctic circle. It is also known from the east coast of North America.
