Characteristics:
The diameter of the funnel shaped bell may reach 25 mm. The stalk is shorter, usually less than 15 mm. The translucent body comes in shades of green, brown, grey, orange, red or purple.
It may be confused L. salpinx. The most obvious difference is the shape of the marginal tentacles or anchors located between each of the eight arms. The anchors of L. auricula are kidney shaped while the anchors of L. salpinx look like trumpets. The arms are not paired, like the arms of L. quadricornis.
Habitat:
It can be found on the low intertidal and shallow sublittoral zones, attached to algae.
Distribution:
Widespread on the northern hemisphere.
