Adult individuals of the fireworks anemone are fairly easy to identify due to the brown and white striped marginal tentacles. The light, almost white labial tentacles surround a grey or light yellow oral disk. It is one of the larger tube anemones in Norway, in some cases reaching a height of 30 cm.
It seems to prefer muddy substrate, on depths between 10 and 100 meters, usually deeper than 20. It is very common in the fjords, often close to estuaries.
It is registered on the British Isles and in Scandinavia as far north as Troms, Norway.
