Characteristics:
C. laevis, formerly known as Microciona laevis, forms thin, fragile, grey or cream colored, sheets. The surface has obvious channels spreading out from a few larger openings (osculae). The surface between the channels is covered by small pores (ostia).
Habitat:
The sponge seems to thrive on steep surfaces on depths below 25 meters.
Distribution:
C. laevis is known along the coasts of the British Isles, Iceland, Norway and Sweeden.
