Characteristics:

These are massive, spherical sponges with a radially symmetrical skeleton. Most are relatively small. This is probably T. norvegica, but positive identification is difficult from picture alone. The differences between T. norvegica and some of the other members in this family are microscopic. The diameter of T. norvegica does not exceed 7 cm. The color is usually white, yellow or orange.

Habitat:

It has been found on depths ranging from 10 to 800 meters. It can be found on muddy substrate and gravel, often hidden under rocks.

Distribution:

T. Norvegica is known from the North-East Atlantic, from Scotland and Norway and north to the Arctic.
