Characteristics:

The shell is very thin and delicate, with a diameter of up to 15 mm. The upper valve is convex, the lower is flat. The upper valve surface is usually smooth with concentric lines, but may also have fluted spines.

Habitat:

The shell is usually found attached to hard substrates or algae, from the intertidal zone and to depths of 1000 meters or more.

Distribution:

T. squamula is registered from the Arctic and as far south as the Bay of Biscay.
