Characteristics:
Because of the deep blue color it can only be confused with small horse mussels. The common mussel is smaller, the length usually does not exceed 10 cm, although individuals 15 cm in length are registered.
Habitat:
You nay will find common mussels, also called blue mussel, in the tidal zone, or just below, attached by byssus threads to any hard surface, like rocks or ship hulls. They often aggregate in dense groups.
Distribution:
It is abundant in eastern parts of the Atlantic Ocean, from the Arctic to the Mediterranean.
