Characteristics:

The grey top shell has a height of less than 1.6 cm. The shell is coned and has five or six whorls. The color tends to vary a bit with the surroundings, but is usually yellow or grey with brown stripes. The opening is oval shaped.

Habitat:

It is found from just below the tidal zone and down to 130 meters. It is often sitting upon or under rocks or sometimes on seaweed or algae.

Distribution:

The grey top shell is distributed from the Straits of Gibraltar to Norway and Iceland. It is abundant in the North Sea, including the British Isles.
