Characteristics:
Hydroid stage: A sessile colony with a fine, erected and slightly branched stem reaching a height of maximum 1 cm. The hydranths are orange or pink.
Medusa stage: The bell-shaped umbrella may reach a height of 18 mm and is marginally higher than wide. It has four radian canals and four long tentacles. An long, sometimes 2.5 times the bell height, extension of the mouth is hanging beneath umbrella. They appear in the spring and early summer.
Habitat:
It is tolerant to low salinity. The medusae are active swimmers in shallow waters.
Distribution:
It is widespread in the North Sea and along the entire Norwegian coast.
