- Kingdom: Animalia
- Phylum: Cnidaria
- Class: Anthozoa
- Subclass: Hexacorallia
- Order: Alcyonacea
- Family: Primnoidae
- Scientific name: Primnoa resedaeformis
- Norwegian: risengrynskorall
Characteristics:
Its appearance is very similar to P. placomus. The most obvious difference is the bushy organization of the branches. It does not have the distinct fan shape, so typical of P. placomus. Furthermore the orange color has quite often a more reddish tint.
Habitat:
Most registrations are deeper than 100 meters, but from the Trondheim Fjord there are reports of specimens found as shallow as 32 meters. It seems to prefer hard rock on current exposed locations.
Distribution:
This sea fan is very common in the North Atlantic Ocean.
