Characteristics:
A special feature of this right eyed flounder is the big mouth. The body is slender and the color is usually light red or brown. It is quite small, reaching a length of no more than 50 cm.
Habitat:
The American plaice prefers soft sand or muddy substrate on depths from 10 to 400 meters.
Distribution:
It is found in the North Atlantic Ocean, from Greenland and Murmansk in the north to Cape Cod and the English Channel in the south.
