Characteristics:
The spotted wolffish has a light grey color base with dark brown blotches. It cannot be mistaken for any of the other wolffishes. Like the other wolffishes, it has a single dorsal fin running along the entire body length. There have been registrations of spotted wolffish reaching 190 cm and 25 kg.
Habitat:
It prefers muddy or sandy substrate. It is most frequent on depths between 100 and 400 meters.
Distribution:
The spotted wolffish has a more northern distribution than the more common Atlantic wolffish. It is registered in northern Norway, Iceland, Greenland and the east costs of North-America, as far south as Massachusetts Bay.
