Characteristics:
The lemon sole is actually not a sole, but a right-eyed flounder. It comes in a large variety of colors. It is capable of adapting the color according to the surroundings within seconds. Adults may reach a body length of 70 cm and a weight of 3 kg. The head is small. The lateral line is straight, except for a curve around the pectoral fin.
Habitat:
The lemon sole lives on stony locations from the subtidal zone and down to a depth of 250 meters. The smallest individuals seem to be most frequent on diveable depths.
Distribution:
This is a North-East Atlantic species, registered from the White Sea and Iceland and down to the Bay of Biscay.
