Characteristics:
This right eyed flounder may reach a length of 60 cm. The body is rather elongated compared to other flounders. The color is light or reddish brown. Large eyes are positioned closely together. The mouth is small. The lateral line is straight.
Habitat:
It is most frequent deeper than 40, but is occasionally seen as shallow as 15 meters. Divers are most likely to encounter the witch flounder in the fjords, on soft substrate.
Distribution:
The witch flounder is registered on both sides of the North Atlantic Ocean, as far south as Cape Cod and Spain.
