Characteristics:
The rugose squat lobster is easily identified by the long, white tipped, claws. The color is brown or orange. The body can reach a length of 10 cm when the abdomen is extended.
Habitat:
The rugose squat lobster is usually seen on rocky or sandy substrate on depths between 8 and 30 meters. This is the only member of the Munida genus that can be seen in shallow waters along the Norwegian coast. The two other Munida members are only reported deeper than 50 meters.
Distribution:
It is registered from Troms, Norway in the north to Madeira and the Mediterranean in the south.
