Characteristics:

The males are usually brown or orange in color, sometimes with white markings. He can reach a body length of 3 cm while the female rarely reach half this length. The female has in general a darker coloration. I. emarginata can be distinguished from other members of this family by the shape of the tale segment, telson. The sides of the telson is slightly convex, ending in to stout spines.

Habitat:

This sublittoral species is most likely to be encountered crawling on seaweeds.

Distribution:

This isopod is registered along the coasts of Europe, from Norway to Spain.
