The blue stripes radiating from the tip of the shell is sufficient to distinguish this shell from any other limpet in Norway. Still the limpet is known in two forms, identified by the habitat. The translucent Ansates pellucida pellucida lives on alga fronds while the slightly more robust Ansates pellucida laevis lives within the holdfast. A. p. pellucida may reach dimensions up to 20 x 15 x 7 mm while A. p. laevis reaches 20 x 8 x 10 mm.
It occurs in the tidal zone or just below.
It is registered in the North-East Atlantic, from Norway and Iceland to Portugal.
