It is very similar to the slender sea pen, but has usually less than 6 polyps on each branch. The stem may reach a lenght of 60 cm. The color of the colony is usually white, beige or bright orange.
This sea pen is common on locations with fine sediments, on deepths from 10 to 300 meters.
It is registered in Scandinavia and around the British Isles.
