Distribution: C. laevis, formerly known as Microciona laevis, seems to thrive on steep surfaces on depths below 25 meters. It is widespread in the North-East Atlantic and can be found along most of the Norwegian coast.

Characteristics:  The sponge forms fragile, thin, grey og cream colored, sheets on hard substrate. The surface has obvious channels spreading out from a few larger openings (osculae). The surface between the channels is covered by small pores (ostia).
